Standing in the Big Apple

Nuuy Stance in NYC

GM, I was out walking in NYC and got tired. Here is my attempt at a relaxed stance with Manhattan in the background.

My standing friend, this is more than an attempt. You definitely appear to be relaxed in stance while the simple young man behind you appears to be fumbling his way through a date. I feel bad for those who are ignorant to the magic of stance. I trust you were well refreshed to continue your journey through the Big Apple.

Dear Master,

I’ve been admiring your stances and plan on purchasing your Book of Stances as soon as I sell my aluminum can collection. Years ago when I was taking an Inspirational Poetry class at an undisclosed community college, I thought my professor was odd for doing this. I didn’t realize this was actually a perfect execution of one of your “Lou” stances.

Bravo to my teacher for helping to blaze the trail with a stance worthy of your high standards!

Thank you Adam for this submission. It is truly encouraging to know that someone in the education system is influencing and inspiring young minds. Kudos to your professor.

Wow! I’m thrilled to see one of my custom stances being put into practice. This stance was specifically designed for tactical taser recipient catching. I like to call this one the “Taser Brace”. I must compliment these protectors of liberty and justice on their flawless execution of this stance. Stand on Brothers!!

Mrs. Master of Stance decided to bust out in stance in the middle of the day for no apparent reason other than to make the day better. She sure does know her stances!

Derrick over at Rogue Symmetry drew this comic in honor of the Book of Stances.

Hello, my mom told me to check out your book. I was inspired to draw up a cartoon after reading the testimonials. Enjoy.

Totally awesome!! Thanks Derrick! Love your work!

This stance comes from Setterina Von Foote – USA Gold x 4:

Using several of your stances shown in your book, I created a hybrid stance to be used in volleyball. This stance has taken my game and my sport to the next level. With extreme gratitude I thank you for your wisdom!

Young Setterina, you honor me with a magnificent display of standability. You are quite amazing and I am astounded by you pure natural talent. And the stancecraft to put together a stance of your own is ingenious!

At less than 7 months old, little Lucy crawled across the Book of Stances that was left lying on the living room floor. 6 1/2 minutes later, she deployed her first stance. Look at her form. Excellent foot placement and detail in finger extension. Amazing! This junior stander begins her standing career as the youngest stander of our time. Congratulations little Lucy.

Student of stance seeks advice

Buddy Upsome

From Buddy:

GM-Your website is an inspiration! As a newcomer to the whole stance scene I am a little confused as to where to get started.  I tested a few in front of family the other day as I was too shy to try them in public.  I guess I was moving to fast through the transitions and didn’t hold the stances long enough. I was told that it looked like I was having a seizure.  To be fair, they were some very advanced and exotic stances and perhaps I wasn’t ready, but now my confidence is shot and I’m afraid to try anything new.I need to learn some good beginner stances that will help me get my coolness across and bolster my confidence! Do you have any advice for me?  I have the stance in me I just know it!

PS- Please don’t judge me by this picture. It was taken before I knew anything about the art of stance… what an embarrassment… I look like a stupid idiot jackass!

Buddy, I’m glad that you are seeking your inner stander. I reviewed the photo of you in mid-stance back before you were aware of the stance scene. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You do not look like a “Jackass”. What you are attempting is a very rudimentary version of one of my casual stances. It’s an branch of the “No Big Deal” stance. The problem is obvious by the lack of attention to detail in your foot placement that you were simply unaware of stand etiquette. While deploying any stance while barefooted, the toes of your back foot should never be hidden by the front foot. This is nothing more that a lack of proper training. I must tell you though; there is definitely a unique quality that seems inherent in you. I think that you are ready to move forward. It pleases me that you have the discovered that you do have “The Stance” in you. I’m sure with a little practice, in no time at all you’ll be able to earn a spot as a Featured Stander. Stay cool my standing brother and …
